| Master of Architecture |
 | | Category Architecture | | Description: Architecture MA (PGCert)
These courses can be studied as stand-alone elements or combined in various ways:
- Architecture graduates seeking professional accreditation and who have already gained RIBA Part 1 exemption can combine the pre-diploma course with either the Architectural Design or Interior Design diploma courses to obtain the Diploma in Architecture with RIBA Part 2 exemption.
- Those not seeking RIBA exemption can enter directly into the diploma course of their choice.
- Any one of the diploma courses can be extended by the equivalent of one full-time semester to obtain an MA.
- Those with RIBA Part 2 exemption can enrol for the professional studies programme which leads to the RIBA Part 3 Professional Practice examination.
- Alternatively, the MA in Architectural Studies offers an opportunity to explore the discipline of architecture as distinct from the profession and its practice.
Career Opportunities
Professional Practice (RIBA Part 3)
Students on a professional accreditation track normally follow a year of supervised office training between their degree and pre-diploma. During this 'year out', they attend a series of seminars and tutorials and are required to keep a detailed log book. Lectures and seminars on professional studies are offered as part of the various postgraduate diploma courses.
Students who have achieved a Diploma in Architecture with RIBA Part 2 exemption can register for the part-time course in professional studies which leads, after a qualifying period of work experience, to the Professional Practice examination (RIBA Part 3) conducted by the university on behalf of the RIBA. Successful candidates are registered with the Architects' Registration Board (ARB) and may apply to become chartered architects and members of the RIBA
