| Master of Architecture |
 | | Category Architecture | | Description: Content and structure
The MA Architecture programme offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary learning and research experience. Focused on architecture, the programme draws from a variety of disciplines (critical studies, art, architecture and related disciplines) and provides a critical approach in terms of design for those students who wish to develop further their academic and professional skills beyond the requirements of professional qualifications. The programme is co-ordinated with the MA Critical Studies, New Media and the Practising Arts offered by the School of Humanities.
You will enjoy reading and writing about architectural ideas and theories as well as questioning design practice in an informed critical way. You will also explore in depth an area of architectural design through independent and personal research and through discussions across various disciplines and various uses of media. The ultimate aim is to perform a 'theory-rich-design' and produce a theoretically informed and considered research project in design. The design research project developed by the student will address the process of designing within an interdisciplinary practice of architecture today. The dissertation is an individually written piece of work that addresses contemporary critical positions and theoretical issues relevant to and connected with the Design Research developed in the studio.
With their application, applicants must submit a portfolio of project work and a personel statement of about 1000 words outlining why they have chosen this particular MA, how they intend to link theory and design and possible topics for their personal research.
Candidates must note that this award is not accredited by a professional body and as such it does not provide exemption from Part 2 of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) professional examination or from Part 2 prescription from The Architects' Registration Board (ARB).
